1. To improve oral and written expression skills in Portuguese and English. 2. To deepen knowledge on the functioning of the language, mobilizing it in different situations. 3. To develop research and reflection competences, mobilizing them in the study of contexts of initiation to professional practice. 4. To develop competences of conception and implementation of teaching practices based on a thorough knowledge of the curricular contents, specific didactics, and students' characteristics. 5. To understand the importance of teaching Portuguese and English in multicultural societies. 6. To improve communication and collaborative work capacities, enhanced by a solid knowledge of educational. organizations, the rules that govern them and the social dynamics that affect them. 7. To recognize ethical, deontological, social, and political implications of the teaching profession, relating them with citizenship issues.
Candidates may apply to the master's programme if they cumulatively meet the following conditions a) Hold a degree in Portuguese and English Studies, or legal equivalent, which has the minimum training credit requirements, in accordance with the legal provisions in force. b) Are holders of a good command of the Portuguese language, verified by passing a written test and an eliminatory oral test. c) read, write, and speak Portuguese well (evaluated through an oral interview and a written exam (minimum 9,5 values).
The master programme in teaching Portuguese and English in the 2nd Cycle of Elementary Education provides professional qualification for teaching in the 2nd Cycle of Elementary Education within the scope of recruitment group 220 (Portuguese and English).
