Educational Research Seminar

Objectives

1. To use research literature as a way of better understanding of school management and educational practice.
2. To design an educational research project, taking into account ethical issues and scientific criteria.
3. To discuss the findings of the research project carried out.
4. To report one's research process and findings in a well-documented and well-structured way

Syllabus

1. Research as a specific form of knowledge;
2. The teacher as researcher;
3. Ethical aspects of teachers' research into their own practice;
4. Doing research: from the research problem to data analysis;
5. Organising the final report.

Teaching Methods

This is an applied curricular unit based on dialogue and practical assignments. The students have to learn the perspectives, models, principles, strategies and techniques of educational research in order to apply them in the research project they have to design and develop. These activities are linked to a socio-constructivist learning model that promotes the cooperative project methodology, with each project preferably carried out in a small group. Some partial and all final results of the research projects are shared and discussed by the class.
