Coastal Zone and Maritime Spatial Planning

« Return

Objectives

- Familiarization with Maritime and Coastal Planning Concepts such as: (Marine Protected Areas (MPA), Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP), Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM));
- Acquire knowledge on European and international legal framework on MSP and ICZM;
- Acquire knowledge on maritime policies for ICZM and maritime spaces;
- Understand the Relationship between Climate Change and MSP / ICZM: threats and risks.

2.2.3 - Monitoring and Evaluation

III - Climate Change and MSP/ICZM

3.1 - Coastal threats and Risks
3.2 - Challenges on MSP

Teaching Methodologies

The methodologies used are based on expositive methods of theoretical content; Readings, critical analysis and oriented discussion. The teaching method is mainly through presential classroom classes but can co-exist moments of e-learning platform by using moodle to guide discussion of some specific content.

The evaluation will be done through: presentation of individual works. These works are based on analysis and critical appraisal of scientific texts and documents. Participation in discussions, where it is valued the prior preparation and substantiation. Two “hands on” assignments will be produced based on design and interpretation of zoning schemes of coastal zone management plans and the Portuguese maritime Spatial Plan.
