Objectives

The aim is for students to acquire good knowledge of fundamental structures and biochemical processes that will help them understand the biochemical structure versus function relationship, the physiology and pathology associated with certain dysfunctions and sustain them to better understand the contents of other disciplines such as microbiology, hematology, immunology, physiology, pharmacology and toxicology, as well as the acquisition of the necessasry lab methodology to the evaluation and study of biomacromolecules

Program

Theoretical Syllabus
Macromolecules (proteins and carbohydrates), and its monomers (sugars and amino acids): structures,
physicochemical characteristics and functions in living been. Metabolic aspects including enzyme catalysis and the free energy associated to the biochemical reactions; biosynthesis and degradation of glycogen, glycolysis and gluconeogenesis, via oxidative of phosphogluconate, the Krebs cycle, the electron transport chain and oxidative phosphorylation.
Laboratory Syllabus
Study aminoacids and potentiometric titration; methods of protein quantification. Electrophoresis. Kinetic study of enzymes (determination Km, Vmax); Evaluation of the effect of pH, temperature and inhibitors. Determination of Ki

Teaching Methodologies

The component Theorical (T), expository, addresses the theoretical concepts with concrete examples of current examples of experience and practical; the practical component (PL), involves performing laboratory techniques which are related with T. Moodle platform offer up educational and support content. The eval. of UC can be performed by conducting Frequency (F) or a written Final Exam (FE) which deals with the knowledge acquired in the T and PL, and the presentation of a theme (Th) related to the scope of this course. In each F the minimum ratingrequired values is 8.00 val. Case does not meet this requirement, the student can only take the examination at the time of appeal. The approval results of the arithmetic average of each frequency, which must be greater than or equal to 9.50 values. By FE, the approval need is a minimum of 9.50 val. The student can then access the appeal time, if not get approval at the normal time. Final evaluation of the UC: FE or F (80%) plus T (20%)
