Objectives

1. Know the health processes in women/family throughout the reproductive cycle and in labor, delivery and puerperium
2. Know the processes that integrate complications and acute and/or chronic pathology concomitant with labor and delivery
3. Integrate knowledge to design, plan, coordinate, supervise, implement and evaluate specialized nursing interventions to solve health problems and urgent/emergency obstetric situations for the parturient, newborn and family.
4. Recognize the potential of health education in nursing interventions for women and families throughout the reproductive cycle
5. Integrate knowledge to design, plan, coordinate, supervise, implement and evaluate intervention programs and projects, in pregnancy and in preparation for parenting
6. Critically analyze situations / cases based on scientific evidence
7. Use technical, written and oral language, adapting it to different contexts.

Physiology, signs and symptoms of the four stages of PT
Pelvic floor care: pre and postpartum
Assessment of maternal-fetal well-being during labor
Pain management in labor, delivery and puerperium
Comfort measures in the four TP stadiums
Analgesia, anesthesia and resuscitation
Mechanism and technique of delivery and surgical correction of the perineum
Normal birth
Pregnancy and twin birth; premature birth; breech delivery
Nursing intervention in dystocic delivery, shoulder dystocia and cord prolapse
Physiological process of detachment and principles of active conduction in detachment
Adaptation of the newborn to extrauterine life
Physical and neurological examination of the newborn
Validation of newborn skills and promotion of breastfeeding
Surgical postpartum
Physical and emotional recovery of women in the postpartum period
Preparation for discharge of the puerperal woman and newborn

Teaching Methodologies

The syllabus will be grouped into thematic blocks and worked on in theoretical teaching sessions, integrating the various knowledge, for the understanding of essential concepts, scientific research to support the practice of specialized nursing based on scientific evidence and active training methodologies including problem solving and the simulated practice.
An active participation of students is expected, with mobilization of knowledge and professional experiences, whether in the analysis and discussion of the syllabus, or in the elaboration and discussion of the works. The preparation of written works and presentation/discussion presupposes the application of communication and interpersonal skills and teamwork.
