Objectives

S1- The analysis of the relationship between Europe and the United States of America from the beginning of the 20th century until the First World War.
2- The relationship between the United States of America and the main European Powers between the two World Wars
3- The Second World War,
4- The NATO Alliance and the Cold War.
5- The post Cold War period: The European Union and the United States

Program

The origins: A European Nation; American Isolationism and the Monroe Doctrine; the Economic Power;
The First World War and Wilsonianism; The Second World War; the Truman Doctrine.
The Containment Policy; the Détente and the case of Vietnam.
Ronald Reagan and the beginning of the end of the Cold War; the time of the Hyperpower; the First Gulf War; the new partnership with Russia; the increasing tensions in Asia;
the War on Terror; the ideology of the indispensable nation; the American theories on International Politics;
The Second Gulf War and its implications; the cases of Iraq and Afghanistan; the Islamic State.

Teaching Methodologies

Evaluation will be based upon a midterm exam and a research paper with no more than 10 pages.
