The course aims at the development of skills necessary for the design of networks and installations for low voltage use.
At the completion of the course, the student will:
• to design electrical installations for low voltage buildings and other electrical facilities;
• to design intelligent solutions in low voltage buildings;
• to design the protection systems for low voltage systems;
• to define the integration of renewables and storage systems in low voltage electrical grids;
• to evaluate the power efficiency of intelligent installations;
• to implement solutions engaging power efficiency in buildings;
• to analyze the power consumption for low voltage buildings.
1. Electrical installations: characterization and technical rules.
2. Low voltage electrical installations:
a) from the substation to the smart meter
b) types of load and consumption profiles
c) protection systems
3. Electricity consumption: consumption profiles, tariffs and markets.
4. Energy efficiency in buildings: assessment and energy efficiency.
5. Home automation solutions in buildings.
6. Consumption management and monitoring: consumers and prosumers.
7. Energy production for self consumption: conception and legal framework.
8. Integration of renewable energies in low voltage installations.
9. Specific low voltage installations:
a) Electric vehicle chargers
b) Energy storage solutions
10. Energy certification of smart buildings.
50% continuous evaluation / 50% non-continuous evaluation
Teaching methodologies aim at project-based learning, reinforcing the practical component, active learning, autonomous work and student accountability. The assessment model incorporates elements of continuous assessment in the context of active learning (projects, with a weight of 50%) compatible with the significant reduction of the weight of assessment by exams (50%).
