Objectives

The objectives of the subject, are to provide students information on the reproductive characteristics and reproductive management and the technical and natural and pharmacological methods of control and manipulation of reproduction of the species considered of interest livestock and companion animals. Also, conveniently intends to prepare students to effect management plans and reproductive control in farms, in an economic perspective, baring in mind the well-fair and respect for the rights of animals.

In view of the career opportunities of the masters course in Animal Science, this course also aims to ensure the necessary training to basic research and applied development in the various areas associated with Animal Reproduction.

Lectures:

General information on animal breeding

Embryonic development of male and female reproductive systems

Reproductive physiology: sexual cycle / uterine cycle and hormonal control

Reproductive management:

Estrus detection techniques

Pharmacological control of the sexual cycle

Pregnancy and childbirth

Reproductive control post partum:

Biotechnology associated with animal breeding

Embryo transfer

Collection and evaluation of semen

Methods inherent female

Artificial insemination.

Practical classes

Dissection of female reproductive tract of females and males of different species.

Ovarian diagnostics and pregnancy by rectal palpation in cattle and horses

Ovarian diagnostics and pregnancy by ultrasound in cattle and horses

Pregnancy diagnosis by using echography in cattle and horses

Placement training subcutaneous and vaginal devices for synchronization of estrus

Semen collection in different species and their evaluation

Teaching Methodologies

According to the curriculum this course is taught in the first half for a total 20 hours of lectures and 26 hours practice. In addition to the theoretical and practical classes, conducting a monograph and its public presentation at the end of the semester for 15 minutes. For lectures, is chosen to face classes where the subject is exposed by the teacher. It is intended that the theoretical foundation in the discipline content that enable the student to make reproduction management plans in different types of holdings, with a solid theoretical and scientific basis. For practical classes, students are divided into groups.
