1. KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS:
1.1. Introduction to Information Systems. Concept of data, information, knowledge and decision. Evolution of information systems. Stages of development of an Information System.
1.2. Introduction to Database Systems. Architecture of a Database Systems. The relational data model. Creation and management of relational databases with MS Access.
2. DECISION MAKING AND DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEMS
2.1. Decision support concept.
2.2. The spreadsheet model as a decision support tool.
3. DECISION SUPPORT METHODS
3.1. Network optimization and logistics: Introduction to linear programming. Transport problems. Using Solver.
3.2. Unicriteria decision analysis: uncertainty and risk context. Modelling preferences and attitude towards risk. Sequential analysis and decision trees.
3.3. Multicriteria decision analysis. Structure, site assessment and aggregation. Compensatory and non-compensatory methods. Sensitivity analyses.
4. UNCERTAINTY AND SUBJECTIVITY IN DECISION
4.1. Uncertainty in the data sources.
4.2 Uncertainty in the analysis and modelling of natural systems.
Lectures consisting of exhibitions sections, where the fundamental concepts are presented using practical examples that illustrate the application of topic under study.
Practical classes articulated with the lectures, resorting to exposing and solving practical problems using the statistical software SPSS - Social Package for Social Science.
Exist also a component of field work to collect data on natural systems for further analysis.
The unit may also benefit from the use of the Moodle platform, where all materials to support course are available.
