Quantitative Methods

Objectives

The unit of Quantitative Methods comprises a wide and practical approach of statistic techniques both at the level of descriptive statistics and at the level of statistical inference or estimation. Students will be able to understand the different statistical techniques covered and to use the SPSS software (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) to implement them. With this, students will gain expertise to develop their research project (dissertation).

Program

1. Introduction

2. Descriptive Statistics

3. Statistical Inference

4. Comparison of counts and proportions

5. Parametric tests to compare populations from independent and paired samples

6. Non-parametric tests to compare population from independent and paired samples

7. Analysis of principal components

8. Factor analysis

9. Clusters’ analysis

10. Multidimensional scaling

11. Discriminant analysis

12. Linear regression

13. Categorical regression

Teaching Methodologies

The main focus is on practical applications. However, a theoretical introduction of all subjects is performed, in which the notation and the most important demonstrations are presented. The presentation of the different techniques is performed with the SPSS software (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences).
