Objectives

1. Understand the geology and geomorphology in a earth dynamic perspective and its relationship to the landscape;

2. Recognize geological materials, structures and landforms with patrimonial importance;

3. Relate geological and geomorphologic processes with geoconservation.

Program

Internal structure of the earth. Rocks and Minerals. The rock cycle. Igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks.

Geodynamic processes and morphogenesis. External geodynamic processes: erosion, transport and deposition.

Internal geodynamic processes: plate tectonics; earthquakes and volcanic activity. Volcanoes and volcanic eruptions. Volcanic structures and volcanic landforms.

Geomorphologic systems.

Geological systems and geoconservation.

Geomorphologic systems and geoconservation.

Geological and geomorphologic heritage.

Teaching Methodologies

The methodologies used are based on the oral presentation, using image projection, followed by debate and discussion.

The contents related to the appreciation of geologic and geomorphologic knowledge and strategies geoconservation, are largely addressed through discussions of works done by the students, in which practical component associated with the study in the field are valued.

The consolidation of knowledge and knowledge of geological and geomorphological is made during practical classes, which involve small group work and field visits.
