Objectives

This course provides to the students the main concepts and theories on Sociology of Organizations with an emphasis on the strategic and systemic analysis.

At the level of the minimal skills the students must know the main concepts and methodologies of the strategic and systemic analysis of the organizations.

The main competences to develop are:

1. To recognise and to interpret the main paradigms and theories in the sociology of organization;

2. To use the methodological approach of the strategic and systemic analysis;

3. To interpret the main sociological approaches related with the organizational phenomena.

Program

1. The organizational phenomena and the sociological approach of organizations

1.1. The Sociology of Organizations: object and issues.

1.2. The main theories of the sociology of organizations.

1.2.1. Rational theories (Taylorism, Bureaucratic analysis)

1.2.2. The human relations theory

1.2.3. The theories of the limited rationality and of the strategic actor

2. The strategic and systemic analysis

2.1. The main principles of the strategic and systemic analysis.

2.2. The main concepts of the strategic and systemic approach.

2.3. The strategic and systemic methodologies

3. Change and intervention in the organizations.

3.1. The organizational change

3.2. The analysis and organizational intervention

3.3. Issues and strategic and systemic analysis.

Teaching Methodologies

Considering the main objectives we adopt an approach that emphasizes a model of interactive course with the participation of the students by the realization of exercises in the classroom on the main issues of the discipline. With the use of Moodle platform we reinforce this dynamic out of the classroom context, and promotes the research, by the students on the subjects related with main topics of the discipline.
