This curricular unit is organized in four thematic units, distributed between theoretical and practical classes.

Theoretical classes’ contents:

1. Introduction to psychological intervention

1.1. Definition and conceptual delimitation.

2. Theories and models of psychological intervention.

2.1. Early methods of intervention.

2.2. The dynamic model and catharsis.

2.3. The humanistic model and the non-directive method.

2.4. The behavioural model.

2.5. The cognitive model.

3. Ethical issues in psychological intervention.

3.1. The psychologist and the practice of psychological Intervention: Limits on intervention.

Practical classes’ contents:

4. Fields of socio-professional application.

4.1. Health Services

4.2. Schools.

4.3. Families.

4.4. Work development/ career.

4.5. Forensics.

4.6. Children and teenage groups.

4.7. Others.

Teaching Methodologies

This unit is divided into theoretical and theoretical/practical sessions. The first are based on expository and interrogative methods (lectures). The latest are mainly devoted to the preparation and presentation of specific themes, in groups of 2 or 3 students (group work). Oral presentations usually last half an hour and are followed by 15 minute debates. Students also render written essays on the themes (up to 10 pages, title page and bibliography excluded).
