With the Course Contexts of Application in Social and Community Psychology, students are expected to:
- Deepen knowledge in the field of Social Psychology and, particularly, in Applied Social Psychology;
- Acquire knowledge in the field of Community Psychology, namely in terms of the values and theoretical frameworks on which it is based and the themes it understands;
- Mobilize knowledge acquired in these fields of Psychology, in the conceptual and methodological aspects, for the observation and understanding of different realities and social issues;
- Perspect the role and function of the social and community psychologist in diverse intervention contexts.
Part I:
- The fundamental values of Community Psychology
- The ecological perspective of Community Psychology
- Observing behaviors in a social and community context
- The theory of empowerment
- Community feeling, advocacy and social capital
- Community diversity and integration
- Social support
Part II:
Contexts and situations for which social psychology and community psychology may constitute an important intervention resource: gender issues, social inequalities, migrations, conditions associated with health and mental health, formal and non-formal educational contexts and environmental issues.
The methodology to be followed in this discipline will be essentially theoretical and practical, with classes centered on students and on the work they will develop, individually and in groups, throughout the semester.
The work will focus on the theoretical preparation of a community intervention project and on the knowledge of ‘institutions’ / organizations and contexts of local social and community intervention.
The collaboration of professionals in the field of social and community intervention is foreseen, either in the classes that will take place at the university or in those that may take place in other spaces.
