Objectives

The use of biological agents in plant protection, prevention of infections, vector control, etc. is a practice that tends to become generalized with beneficial effects for humans and for the environment. The widespread use of biological agents requires the identification, characterization, production, formulation and application technologies based on mass, as they are currently biotechnologies. This course aims to provide students with the tools to identify and explore current techniques in biotechnology for the characterization, production, formulation and implementation of organisms and their derivatives in biocontrol.

Program

1. The use of biotechnology for the identification of agents and molecules derived from biological control agents on pests, weeds, infectious agents, parasites, etc. vectors.

2. Identification and analysis of biotechnological processes used in the production of control agents or their derivatives.

3. Implementation of in vitro techniques useful in controlling pests and diseases (virus, bacteria, nematodes and fungi) microorganisms.

4. New perspectives on the application of biological agents created by the use of biotechnology.

Teaching Methodologies

The identification and exploitation of biotechnological methods used will be made by the analysis of case study and the performance of some of them (hands on), such as the production of media, inoculation, culture bioreactor, down strem processes, formulations. The analysis of new approaches will be taken by the discussion. The contents regarding the identification, characterization and production of beneficial organisms will be developed in the form of demonstration lessons in TP. In the OT classes will be addressing them content about conservation, formulation implementation and evaluation based on the analysis and synthesis of cases.
