The course objective is to equip course participants with some of the vocabulary and skills required to read, write and speak in English about medicine and related areas.
1. Reading: focus on reading effectively and active reading
2. Writing: focus on the structure and organization of scientific articles
3. Speaking (short presentations, discussions) and pronunciation
4. Communicating with patients
5. Medical vocabulary, especially with regard to lay terms and professional terms, collocation and pronunciation
6. General vocabulary
7. English language structures (grammar).
The methodology is task-based and student-centered. Students should be ready to participate in class, express their opinions, complete grammar and vocabulary exercises on medical terminology, and write short essays/summaries on medical issues.
During the classes, several practical exercises will be carried out individually, in pairs or in groups, so that students can use technical medical vocabulary, understand and explain technical texts, write coherent and well-organized texts, express themselves in a clear and fluent way, and understand spoken English at an advanced level.
Students will have access to varied articles related to Medicine for a better development of their understanding of the English language. Practice in the four skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) is complemented with a review and consolidation of grammar and syntax. Students will practice the acquired language to participate properly and effectively in discussions and assignments.
