Nursing Care of Children and Adolescents

Objectives

Students should be able to:

1. Know the International, National and Regional Health Policies directed to children and adolescents and their implications for the pediatric nursing care;

2. Analyze the current situation of health care and child / adolescent / family health surveillance programs;

3. Understand the interrelation of the different factors that interfere in the process of growth and development as well as the pathological processes and the treatment of the child / adolescent.

4. Acquire knowledge about the main health problems, the most frequent specific pathologies and the main emergency / emergency situations in the newborn, child and adolescent;

5. Acquire knowledge that allows the identification of nursing phenomena and diagnoses and the formulation of a nursing care plan that enhances health promotion, disease prevention and recovery of the child / adolescent and family, based on their responses Including common Pediatric Emergency situations.

Program

1. Pediatric Nursing Perspectives (Health Policies; Rights of the Child; Health Indicators; Health and Vaccination Programs; Philosophy of Care)

2. Child and adolescent health (Growth and development; Parenting; Food; Sleep; security; Sexuality; Hygiene and comfort).

3. Nursing for children and adolescents experiencing special situations (Hospitalization; Pain; Fever; Abuse).

4. Acute and chronic conditions most prevalent in the child (Nursing action in the compromised processes of the systems: immunitary; gastrointestinal respiratory; genitourinary; osteoarticular).

5. From data collection to diagnostic decision-making (evaluation: physics, growth, development, Vital Signs).

6.Nursing intervention in pathological processes

6.1. Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (Medication administration; maintenance of nutritional and respiratory function; Sample collection; Early diagnosis).

7. Technical procedures (Bathing the newborn; Anthropometric assessment; preparation of feeding bottles and porridge; immobilization; Nursing consultation).

Teaching Methodologies

This course was designed with theoretical, theoretical-practical and practical moments in order to be able to articulate the knowledge of the different domains. It also contains moments of reflection and analysis of knowledge through an active dynamic that is intended to instill. It is intended to adopt student-centered methodologies that make them an active agent in their teaching / learning process. The teacher, as an advisor and learning manager, will ensure, during the course, the conditions and means that contribute to the student's human and professional development. In essentially practical sessions, the laboratory will be used for demonstrations and manipulation of support material for nursing techniques.
