Objectives

1. To internalize the key concepts regarding the analysis and interpretation of literary and cinematic narratives;

2. To be able to ‘read’ a literary and a cinematic narrative taking into account not only their specific structure and aesthetic devices, but also their dynamic interrelationships.

Program

1. From literary to filmic narrative: the key terms and concepts regarding their analysis and interpretation.
2. Literature into film: phenomenology of the adaptation.
3. Three case studies for the correlate cinema | literature:
a. Branquinho da Fonseca por Eggar Pêra — The Baron;
b. Daphne du Maurier por Alfred Hitchcock — The Birds;
c. Joseph Conrad por Francis Ford Coppola — Heart of Darkness | Apocalypse Now.

Teaching Methodologies

Classes will be theoretical-practical in nature: presentation of the key terms an concepts, the analytical tools, and the data required by the various themes to be covered.
