Objectives

The curricular unit aims to provide a basic understanding of the integration process, the historical and political context that led the major European States to engage in a process of approximation of their destinations. It is important that students acquire a sound knowledge of the conditions that led to the political and economic integration process among the European States. The curricular unit of Community Law is the proper framework for curriculum students to learn about the institutional framework of the European Union, to study its structure and operating rules, to understand the kind of legal relationship that is established between the Union and the Member States and how these processes establish the delimitation of spheres of action of each of them. It is also important to understand the entire legislative process as well as the judicial system of the European Union.

Program

Chapter I - Introduction - The genesis of the communities / European Union, the Treaty of Paris to the Lisbon Treaty.

Chapter II - The Institutional Law. The institutional system of the European Union.

Chapter III - The Community legal order. The Community Law Originating and derivative. Community Legal Instruments.

Chapter IV - The cooperation between the community and the authorities of Member States when implementing Community law. The legality of the actions of the Community institutions. The monitoring of compliance with Community law by Member States. Liability community.

Chapter V - Bodies and instruments for strengthening the area of freedom, security and justice.

Teaching Methodologies

The curricular unit is organized into 30 practical classes. During the classes we intend to promote active participation of students in order to develop reasoning and their ability to integrate knowledge, as well as the application of knowledge acquired previously, namely with the resolution of practical cases. Supporting materials are also available, eg those used by the professor, and treated texts for discussion. The sharing of relevant experiences will be encouraged in Moodle, with the creation of discussion forums created by the professor.

To assist the students, the professor will provide a personalized tutorial service, and students can still use e-mail to request guidance and help in solving problems.
