Objectives

1. oral speech techniques.

1.1. Oral speech: informal speech vs. formal speech.

2. Writing – the paragraph and the text.

2.1. Ways of developing the paragraph.

3. The production and interpretation of texts.

3.1 Types of text.

3.1.1. Descriptive text – linguistic processes of descriptive text.

3.1.2. Narrative text – time and action.

3.1.3. Argumentative text – principles characterizing the argumentative text.

3.1.4. Summary.

3.1.5. Instrumental text – example: minutes, report, request, official letter, cover letter.

3.2. Citation processes in the text.

4. Problem areas of the Portuguese language.

4.1. Morphosyntactic agreement between sentence constituents.

4.2. Argumentative prepositions (suppression, addition and exchange).

4.3. Pronominalization with “cujo”.

4.4. The use of connectors “porque” and “por que”.

Teaching Methodologies

 

The course has a total of 60 contact hours, 30 of which are theoretical (T), the remaining 30 being theoretical-practical (TP). Depending on the type of classes, there will be more expository classes (with a theoretical description of the contents that make up the program) and others will also include practical activities. The introduction of new content will be followed by formal exercises. In order to provide the most diverse contact possible with the mother tongue, content on how the language is used will be worked on based on texts of different types. The practice of formal writing and speaking will also be encouraged.

 Practical activities:

Worksheets on questions relating to the functioning of the language.

Oral speech production exercises.

Analysis of the structure of prototypical texts.

Production of texts according to previously analyzed structures.

Promotion of debate on topics relating to formal speech, whether oral or written.
