Environmental Health

Objectives

1. Recognize the most important historical moments of the environmental and public health evolution;

2. Recognizing the importance of the environment and its variables in determining the health status of populations and ecosystems;

3. Recognize and identify cases of natural and anthropogenic pollution;

4. Relate the human exposure to pollutants in the environment with the health effects resulting from that exposure, and be able to identify emission sources of environmental pollutants.

Natural and anthropogenic pollution

Water Quality and Health

Air quality and health

Soil quality - implications in agriculture and human health

Health implications of the sanitation indicators of populations

Identification of environmental exposures, health problems related to the environment and causal associations - case studies

Development of the concepts of monitoring and biomonitoring.

Teaching Methodologies

The course has theoretical and practice classes, with expository sessions combined with periods of study, where students, tutored by the teacher, explore scientific articles related to environmental studies and public health.
