The cycle of studies aimed at obtaining a master's degree in Mathematics Teaching in the 3rd Cycle of Basic and Secondary Education comprises 4 semesters (2 academic years), with the degree awarded to those who obtain 120 ECTS. This master's degree aims to train Mathematics teachers for the 3rd Cycle of Basic and Secondary Education, with the main objective of developing mathematical skills initiated in the first cycle of studies, as well as the acquisition and development of scientific and pedagogical skills necessary for the exercise of the teaching role in Mathematics Teaching.
It is intended that students, during the course of the programme: acquire knowledge and reflection skills on the exercise of teaching and the school reality, taking into account the realities that compose it (social context, evaluation, legislation, planning and organization of teaching, between others); develop diversified teaching strategies that encourage creativity, critical thinking and methodical work, as well as develop skills to identify and overcome learning difficulties; promote learning taking into account the class curriculum and the development of skills provided for therein. The conclusion of this cycle of studies involves the public defense of a report on a curricular unit carried out during supervised teaching practice.
Holders of a degree in mathematics or equivalent, or in a related area; Holders of a foreign academic degree in mathematics or a related field conferred following a 1st cycle of studies in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process by a State acceding this process, or to be recognized as meeting the objectives of a degree by the competent scientific body of the higher education institution where they want to be admitted; Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum recognized by the Scientific Council of the Master as attesting the capacity to carry out the course; The domain of spoken and written English (in accordance with Article 10 of DL n º 43/2007 of 22 February);The satisfaction of specific rules of admission in courses of study leading to the degree of master, contained in Article11 of DL n º 43/2007 of 22 February.
Graduates of this course will be professionally qualified to teach Mathematics in the 3rd Cycle of Basic and Secondary Education. Under the terms of Decree-Law No. 43/2007, of February 22, approval in the 2nd cycle of studies is mandatory for teaching professionalization.
