1. To contribute to the affirmation of quality and professional teaching ethics, based on scientific rigor and critical reflection 2. To enable the understanding of the educational reality and the resolution problems related to professional practice through the development of investigative attitudes and skills 3. To promote excellence in the field of teaching contents and its mobilization in teaching contexts 4. To support the development of educational practices contextualized in the characteristics and needs of students 5. To frame the teaching of history in current educational policies 6. To stimulate reflection on the importance of teaching history in contemporary and multicultural societies, in the light of principles of inclusion and citizenship 7. To promote familiarity with educational organizations as well as the ability to work in various types of teams, in the light of ethical principles


1. To deepen knowledge of the dominant problems in the fields and periods of study inherent in historical science 2. To consolidate the domain of concepts essential to historiography 3. To develop research and reflection skills, mobilizing them in the study of contexts of initiation to professional practice 4. To develop skills for the design and implementation of teaching practices based on a thorough knowledge of curricular content, specific teaching and student characteristics 5. To understand the importance of teaching history in contemporary and multicultural societies 6. To improve communication and collaborative work skills, enhanced by a solid knowledge of educational organizations, the rules governing them and the social dynamics affecting them. 7. To recognize ethical, ethical, social, and political implications of the exercise of the teaching profession and relate them to citizenship issues

Admission Requirements

Candidates may apply to the master's degree if they cumulatively meet the following conditions: a) hold a degree in History (with 120 ECTS in History, according to Decree-Law no. 79/2014, of 14 May) or legal equivalent; b) other applicants who meet the entry requirements required by the legal system of professional qualification forteaching (120 ECTS in History, according to Decree-Law n.º 79/2014 of 14 May 2014 and candidates with 75% of the credits in History, who will be able to complete them during the Masters course, subject to this conclusion the registration in the Didactics and Initiation to Professional Practice (IPP), according to article 18, points 5 and 6 of the same decree). c) read, write and speak Portuguese well (evaluated through an oral interview and a written exam (minimum 9,5 values).
