Under the existing agreement between the University of the Azores and the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), the first two years of the course leading to the master's degree in Veterinary Medicine by UTAD are taught at the University of the Azores. Students who successfully complete the first two years of the course at the University of the Azores continue their studies at that institution, entering the 3rd year of the course. The Integrated Master in Veterinary Medicine has the following specific objectives: a) to guarantee adequate veterinary training, based on scientific research, during which students learn to care for the health and welfare of animals, to contribute to a competitive and sustainable animal production, with respect for the environment, to protect man from zoonosis and to guarantee the quality and safety of food products of animal origin; b) provide high level training, at the end of which students demonstrate, among other skills, how to apply their knowledge and their ability to understand and solve problems in broad and multidisciplinary contexts, in the area of Veterinary Sciences; c) develop skills to integrate knowledge, deal with ethics and responsibility, with complex issues, and be able to communicate their reasoning and conclusions in a clear and objective way; d) develop skills that allow them to learn throughout their life, in an autonomous way.

Objectives

a) Develop skills to care for the health and welfare of animals; b) Promote sustainable and environmentally responsible animal production; c) Ensure the quality and safety of food products of animal origin; d) Promote the ability to understand and solve problems in broad and multidisciplinary contexts in the area of Veterinary Sciences.

Admission Requirements

Those interested can apply for the course through one of the following national competitions organized by DGES: National Competition for Access and Admission to Public Higher Education; and Special Regimes. Application may also be possible through the following special competitions, organized by the University of the Azores: Special Competitions for Access and Admission to the University of the Azores (Over 23 Years, Holders of Technological Specialization Diploma, Holders of Higher Professional Technician Diploma, Holders of Other Higher Education Courses, Holders of dual certification courses in secondary education and specialized artistic courses); Regimes of Re-entry and Change of Institution / Course; Special competition for access and admission of international students to the University of the Azores. In all cases, the application is dependent on the candidates' compliance with the conditions required for this purpose. Professional Opportunities

After the completion of the Integrated Master in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), and with the registration in the Order of Veterinarians, the professionals are able to develop his professional activity in the following areas: pet clinic, including new pet animals; clinic for livestock species; animal health; animal production and nutrition; sanitary inspection of food; technology of products of animal origin; veterinary public health; scientific research.
