The present cycle of studies seeks to provide a formative path that qualifies those who take it for professional careers (at Offices of Public Relations, Press Advice Departments, Organization and Management of Events Institutions, Hospitality and Tourism Entities, Institutions of Social Solidarity, Municipalities, Embassies, Museums and Cultural Associations) in the fields of language and communication, of business organization and management of human resources. It also allows students to choose their own academic itinerary by enabling them to take one of the training nuclei proposed and two academic units of free choice, with the aim of offering them an appropriate correlation between the educational process and the interests as well as career prospects. Undergraduates meet with the necessary requirements in order to develop and acquire the skills needed to carry out a professional activity, whether in the specific context of public relations or in related professional areas.

Objectives

The degree in Public Relations and Communication seeks a broad and rigorous training in the areas of language and communication, business organization and human resource management, including the understanding of contemporary society and its patterns of behaviour, with emphasis given to the behaviour of the internal and external public of companies and institutions. This ensures the acquisition of skills necessary to carry out a professional activity, whether in the specific context of public relations, or in related professional contexts. The development of these skills takes place within different academic units, and in each one of them teaching methodologies and evaluation systems are put into practice in accordance with this purpose. In its turn, the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures tracks and monitors these procedures through its organs of supervision and by administering surveys to students.

Admission Requirements

Those interested can apply for the course through one of the following national competitions organized by DGES: National Competition for Access and Admission to Public Higher Education; and Special Regimes. Application may also be possible through the following special competitions, organized by the University of the Azores: Special Competitions for Access and Admission to the University of the Azores (Over 23 Years, Holders of Technological Specialization Diploma, Holders of Higher Professional Technician Diploma, Holders of Other Higher Education Courses, Holders of dual certification courses in secondary education and specialized artistic courses); Regimes of Re-entry and Change of Institution / Course; Special competition for access and admission of international students to the University of the Azores. In all cases, the application is dependent on the candidates' compliance with the conditions required for this purpose.
