The graduation in Agrarian Science (Animal Science and Agronomy branches) aims to train professionals with solid knowledge and skills, able to respond to the demands of the Regional, National and International labour market in the areas of primary production and processing, as well as in the associative/cooperative sectors and rural extension service. This study cycle is supposed to provide a multidisciplinary approach that combines both scientific and technique foundations and training necessary for the desired profile that brings students for the reality which they will find in future professional life.

Objectives

The curricular structure is based upon an integrated scientific project based on multidisciplinary knowledge demands with the adequate specific topics for each one of the course's branch. Students are expected to comply with the following generical and specific competences throughout the scheduled 3 years: General- Analytic and synthetical capacities within the broad field of solving problems that are directly connected with farming as well as developing an efficient auto critical personality; Specific- Development of efficient participation requirements when strategic enterprise decisions are required, individual and team work, holistic approaches and solving specific problems in this field of knowledge including innovation and internationalism. Development and full acquisition of the above competences will lead to a plain compliance with the proposed objectives namely by stimulating research, innovation and evolution of professional skills by means of practical work and within the Project CU thus englobing the wide range of methodologies previously used within each of the curricular units.

Admission Requirements

Those interested can apply for the course through one of the following national competitions organized by DGES: National Competition for Access and Admission to Public Higher Education; and Special Regimes. Application may also be possible through the following special competitions, organized by the University of the Azores: Special Competitions for Access and Admission to the University of the Azores (Over 23 Years, Holders of Technological Specialization Diploma, Holders of Higher Professional Technician Diploma, Holders of Other Higher Education Courses, Holders of dual certification courses in secondary education and specialized artistic courses); Regimes of Re-entry and Change of Institution / Course; Special competition for access and admission of international students to the University of the Azores. In all cases, the application is dependent on the candidates' compliance with the conditions required for this purpose.
