The general objectives of this study cycle are: a) Promote advanced knowledge in Agricultural Sciences, both in theoretical fields as in applied fields; b) Development of research capabilities; c) Encourage autonomous and original work in the field of Agricultural Sciences. d) Promote the development of innovative research projects in the field of Agricultural Sciences; e) contribute to extending the frontiers of knowledge concerning Agricultural Sciences and its intersection with other domains of knowledge inside and outside of the exact sciences; f) Train individuals capable of intervening with innovation in professional field activities in different areas of application of Agricultural Sciences.

Objectives

The objectives of the Study Cycle reflect the desired profile for a doctorate in the field of Agricultural Sciences. The course organization focuses on individual instruction and independent work, having created the necessary conditions for the doctoral student could: a) be entitled to counselling sessions, in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Scientific Council; b) have systematic bibliographic support, with access to the Azores University Libraries and research in national and international databases; c) participation in scientific meetings (conferences, seminars, colloquia, and others) organized at the University of the Azores, or other institutions; d) interact with other elements of the research teams integrated by supervisors. The sessions of personal guidance, the tutorial type, will concentrate on the research project developed by the student, Staff orientation sessions will be the tutorial type, centered on the research project developed by the student and will aim continuous analysis of the training process and the dynamic route planning, with a view to achieving the goals set.

Admission Requirements

May apply for the doctoral program in Agricultural Sciences: a) Holders of master's degree in Zootechnical Engineering, Agronomic Engineering, Food Engineering, Food Technology and Safety, Water Systems Engineering and Management, Nature Conservation and Management, Veterinary Medicine, or legally equivalent qualifications; b) Holders of a licenciatura degree or equivalent in Agricultural Sciences, Heritage and Nature, Biochemistry, Economics, Management, Biology, holders of a relevant academic or scientific curriculum recognized by the Scientific Council as attesting the capacity to carry out this Ph.D.; c) Holders of a school, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized by the scientific council as attesting capacity for the achievement of this PhD.
