Study programme's generic objectives: a) Increase knowledge and general understanding of the main branches of marine sciences as biology, ecology, Marine resources and Oceanography, and their interactions; b) The high-quality training in a demanding research environment, supported by projects and teams of scientists at national and international level; c) The training methods and advanced R & D analysis techniques applied in the field and laboratory; d) Building the capacity to seek and interpret complex scientific information and conduct original research; as well as conceptualize, plan, implement and manage research scientific. e) Interact with multidisciplinary research teams; f) Find funding to carry out cutting-edge scientific research; g) Communicate ideas and scientific results to specialist and non-specialist audiences; h) To acquire skills in the area of entrepreneurship and self-employment.

Admission Requirements

May apply for the cycle of studies leading to a doctoral degree in Marine Sciences: a) Holders of master's degree or equivalent in the framework of Marine Sciences, Biological, or Oceanography, Natural and Environmental Sciences, Geology, Chemistry, Physics and Management; b) Bachelor's degree holders, or unlicensed, but holders of a particularly relevant academic or scientific curriculum recognized as attesting the capacity to accomplish this cycle of studies by the legal and statutorily competent scientific body of the University of the Azores;
