- To qualify people in an essential area for the regional economy of the Azores, namely tourism; - To form people for jobs in several branches of tourism; - To enhance the entrepreneurship among students who wish to open their own innovative businesses in the tourism sector; - To enlarge the options open to current students of the Economics and Business Management Department of the University of the Azores, - To promote the coordination with the core educational areas covered by the Economics and Business Management Department, namely in the fields of Economics and Management; - To encourage scientific research in the field of tourism in order to create an internationally recognized area of scientific excellence; - To encourage the collaboration in networks with other regional, national and international entities that operate in the field of tourism education, ensuring the greatest possible mobility for students of this course.

Objectives

The main objectives are: a) To provide solid, theoretical knowledge which is essential to guarantee a good professional performance in several activities in the hospitality management and in the management of tourism destinations’ sectors; b) To develop a critical spirit among students; c) To develop an entrepreneurial risk-taking spirit among students; d) To encourage leadership; e) To provide bigger choice opportunities; f) To encourage group work and active participation in classes; g) To develop scientific research.

Admission Requirements

Can apply to the master program: a) Holders of a bachelor's degree, or legal equivalent, in tourism, management, economics and other related areas; b) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree or legal equivalent, conferred following a 1st cycle of studies organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to the Process; c) Holders of a higher academic degree, recognized as satisfying the objectives of the degree of licenciatura by the Scientific Council of UAc; d) Holders of a school, scientific or professional curriculum, recognized by the UAc Scientific Council as providing capacity to realize a master's degree.

Management of tourist accommodation companies; Management of tourist entertainment companies; Management of restaurant and catering companies; Management of public organizations in the tourism sector, such as: the Ministries / Regional Secretariats of Economy / Tourism, Regional Directorates of Tourism, Tourism Delegations, Tourism Institutes, Tourism Observatories and other publicorganizations in the field of tourism; Creation of new innovative tourist companies; Consultancy in the field of tourism; Consultancy in the fields of hotels and restaurants; Teaching and Research in the areas of tourism and hotels / restaurants.
