The present cycle of studies seeks to provide a formative path that qualifies those who take it both for further academic studies and for starting or improving professional careers as Translators or Linguistic Advisors at Publishing Companies, Editorial Boards, Translation and Consulting Offices, Press Advice Departments, Organization and Management of Events Institutions, Hospitality and Tourism Entities, Institutions of Social Solidarity, Municipalities, Consulates, Embassies, Museums and Cultural Associations. The learning outcomes aim at preparing students in the fields of native and foreign languages, as well as providing them with a cultural overview of the contemporary world. The advantages of interdisciplinary methods and approaches, and the place of Translation and Communication in the global society will be evinced, while offering an appropriate correlation between the educational process and career prospects.

Objectives

The study programme seeks to provide a rigorous training in translation and linguistic consultancy inasmuch as in contiguous areas such as culture and textual edition, so that students will be able to develop and consolidate linguistic, cultural and textual skills as well as to gain proficiency in research and in the use of electronic tools. The curriculum leads to a coherent and balanced learning in Mother and Foreign Languages providing an even balance between theory and practice as regards text editing and translation, thus developing students’ communication skills. The teaching methodologies and evaluation systems used in the different courses promote the development of the aforementioned areas and skills. The Department of Modern Languages and Literature accompanies this process through its governing bodies and by holding meeting with students and soliciting their evaluation, as previously mentioned.

Admission Requirements

Those who meet the following conditions may apply to the cycle of studies that leads to the mestre degree: a) Holders of the licenciado (bachelor) degree or legal equivalent; b) Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum vitae that is recognized by the Scientific Council as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies; c) Holders of a good proficiency in all the working languages.
