The aim of the course is to fulfil market needs by training technicians whom will have a decisive role in the integrated management of issues related to environment and to occupational safety, eliminating adverse environmental impacts, improving environmental performance and working conditions, and promoting quality and productivity. The course aims to assure the development of those skills framed by the legislation applicable to the certification of occupational health and safety technicians, and thus granting the issuance of a professional certificate. This ensemble of academic and professional training is intended to provide a certified degree, oriented towards a highly differentiated career. The course aims to work as a means to increase the professional aptitudes of young graduates, to convert graduates in less employable areas, and to update the training of active, high level technicians.

Objectives

Increasingly, environments, health and safety constitute interdependent subjects the principles of which should determine the fundamental axes of a sustainable growth. The enterprises and institutions fulfil a fundamental role when investing in a integrated management of the subjects underlying environment, health and safety, resulting in a decrease or elimination of adverse environmental impacts, in the improvement of the life quality of workers, in the prevention of professional accidents, an in a increase in competitively. For that it is fundamental to incorporate adequately qualified technicians that are able to undertake integrated functions in environmental management and safety. This master comes to meet these needs, providing training of technicians responsible for environmental quality and occupational risk prevention in organizations, contributing to the implementation of new models of business leadership. The training path will allow a phased and integrated evolution in the areas of Environment, Health and Safety. One component of this master's curriculum aims to ensure the development of skills contemplated by the applicable legislation, in terms of parameters and requirements for the certification as Graduated Technicians in Occupational Health and Safety. To this end, this training route will contribute to the issuance of the Certificate of Professional Aptitude. In the area of the environment, the course aims to develop the skills necessary to train qualified personnel in waste management, environmental management (life cycle analysis, environmental impact assessment, among others), implementation of environmental management systems, integrated management and resource management, using appropriate methodologies, tested in real situations. In the area of safety, focus is on the acquisition of skills on substances, equipment, structures and processes that may affect the health or safety of workers as well as on the evaluation of various types of risks. Both security issues and risk assessment are taught using the reference methodologies, whenever possible illustrated by real or simulated situations. Regarding health, the skills are directed towards the training of technicians able to evaluate the effect of priority pollutants on public health, on questions related to ergonomy and on the organization of the health services in enterprises. It also provided additional training in several areas to develop skills related to business integration. The degree of compliance is rigorously analysed in each module of the different courses, not only through theoretical or practical tests but also by conducting individual or group projects. In addition, the training period in real work context and the work performed during the second year complement the evaluation process.

Admission Requirements

May apply to the Master's degree holders of the licenciado (bachelor’s) degrees in Engineering, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Economics and Management, or in a related field, or legally equivalent qualifications, and the owners of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized by the Scientific Council as attesting the capacity to carry out the master and demonstrate extensive experience in the course of the study area.
