Presentation

1. Qualify human resources in favor of activities aimed at sustainability and innovation in tourism; 2. Offer a 2nd cycle training option, in the field of tourism knowledge, to students who finish the 1st cycle at the University of the Azores or other universities; 3. Deepen knowledge about the sustainable development of tourism, including the management of destinations, companies and tourism products, as well as responsible marketing; 4. Provide complete methodological training that enables appropriate responses to research problems in tourism; 5. Stimulate entrepreneurship in tourism, whether intrapreneurship or the creation of tourist companies; 6. Train people capable of managing the environmental, socio-cultural and economic impacts of tourism, within companies and tourist destinations; 7. Promote innovation and technological adoption in tourism with a focus on sustainable business models, based on changing paradigms.

Objectives

1. Understand the evolution and challenges of sustainability in tourist destinations; 2. Plan and implement certification and sustainable management of destinations; 3. Understand the concepts of entrepreneurship and innovation in tourism; 4. Understand the fundamentals of managing sustainable tourism products; 5. Understand the concepts of marketing and discuss marketing tools to promote the sustainability of tourism in tourist destinations; 6. Identify the differences between growth and development, from a sustainable development perspective; 7. Understand the digital transition processes in tourism, integrating sustainable strategies; 8. Understand the ethical and social responsibilities in data management processes; 9. Apply and critically evaluate various techniques, methods and data sources in tourism research; 10. Develop skills to design research projects, considering ethical issues, generation and analysis of data and discussion of results

Admission Requirements

Applicants for this master’s degree program should be: - Holders of a bachelor's degree, or legal equivalent, in Tourism, Management, Economics, or related areas; - Holders of a foreign higher academic degree, or legal equivalent, in Tourism, Management, Economics, or other related areas, awarded following a 1st cycle of studies organized in accordance with the Principles of the Bologna Process; - Holders of a foreign higher academic degree, or legal equivalent, in Tourism, Management, Economics, or related areas, recognized as meeting the objectives of the degree by the Scientific Council of the FEG of the University of the Azores; - Holders of an academic, scientific, or professional curriculum, which is recognized by the Scientific Council of the FEG of the University of the Azores as attesting the ability to undertake a master's degree. Candidates are selected and, when applicable, ranked according to: school curriculum, scientific curriculum, and professional experience.

The professional opportunities of the master's degree are part of roles of greater responsibility in terms of planning and managing destinations, attractions and other tourist services, both in public bodies and in companies in the sector: - Senior management of Tourism, Recreation and Leisure; - Destination Management Organizations (DMO); - Public Tourism Bodies; - Municipal Council Tourism Departments; - Professional associations in the field of Tourism; - Consultants and researchers in the field of Tourism; - Teachers in the area of ​​tourism training; - Entrepreneurs in the area of ​​Tourism, Recreation and Leisure.
